Today we broke out of the standard format and brought in a guest. Debbie is a Master Gardener who provides us a wealth of knowledge on vegetable gardening. She is very knowledgeable and passionate about growing fruits, veg, herbs and medicinal plants in line with her local climate.
She has expressed an interest in coming back to explain in more detail some of the things touched upon today. She specifically asked for more time to discuss square foot gardening in raised beds, medicinal plants and her experiences with them, and her use and experiences with cider vinegar tonics and essential oils. She has helped many people in the local community with over 100 volunteer hours logged each year (some years 400 hours) in those activities. You can bet she will be on again.

Conversations from the Porch Episode 12
Thank you Debbie, very informative, you're a lady after my own heart, especially when you talked about communicating with the plants. I would be intrigued about your take on the importance of composting and tips and tricks for such.
And Phil, your opening comments are so on the money. I am fortunate enough to live in the County of Norfolk, in the UK, which is almost entirely farmland, woodland and a bread basket for this country. And we have a good community of sharing what we all grow - we still have 'honesty boxes', where people will put out their excess produce in the front of their homes and others can come and take such, leaving money or other produce in exchange. Amazingly, there is very little theft of such, usually on the part of tourists.
Garden space isn't a necessity. One can container garden if they have a space to put containers. Balcony or patio that gets sun will do nicely. I have grown indoors as well and it works pretty good for certain thing depending on light availability. Thank you for your comment.
